Academic support for undergraduates
Nobody expects you to be able to produce degree level work from day one – you need to learn how to do that. Our Academic Skills Programme is designed to introduce you to the main components of academic writing. Every first year undergraduate completes a compulsory programme of study skills which begins in Induction Week. We also offer a number of optional workshops and short programmes which many students find helpful. We offer one-to-one support for students with additional or specific learning needs, and are happy for you to pop in to see one of the Academic Support Team if you need some additional help. Academic staff are incredibly generous with their time and your one–to-one tutorials are key to your learning. In addition the regular meetings with your Personal Tutor are an invaluable way to review your progress.

Academic support for postgraduates
Many postgraduate students are returning to College after a period away from formal study and welcome the opportunity to refresh their study skills.
We offer a series of optional sessions for postgraduate students covering topics such as, how to approach an academic task, writing a good essay, note making techniques and correct referencing. These sessions are offered Monday - Thursday between 5pm and 6pm.
Postgraduate students are also welcome to join the various undergraduate workshops offered throughout the year.

Academic support for international students (and those returning from study abroad)
All International students need to ensure that they attend either an undergraduate or postgraduate session on referencing so that you reference your work correctly whilst at Heythrop. Details of all of these sessions will be available at the beginning of the academic year.
Heythrop students returning from their Erasmus study abroad placement need to attend a refresher session on ‘Correct referencing’.
A weekly ‘Improve your English as a foreign language’ course is also offered.
