Centre for Christianity and Interreligious Dialogue
The Centre for Christianity in Interreligious Dialogue exists to advance scholarship and dialogue, through research, teaching, conferences and publications. The Centre provides a forum for the study and practice of the encounter between Christianity and the other major religious traditions. As an integral part of Heythrop College's work in this area, the particular focus of the Centre is on the Catholic Church's approach to other world religions, world Christianity and interreligious relations, as well as Christian theological engagement with the intellectual and spiritual traditions of other religions.
The Centre’s role is to promote an awareness and knowledge of the importance of interreligious engagement between the world’s religious cultures and traditions. Through meetings and publications it is hoped that the quality of engagement among those interested in the encounter will be improved. Through these activities, courses and seminars it is hoped to take the conversation forward amongst scholars, researchers, writers, journalists and religious leaders.
The Centre is committed to maintaining the highest quality research and teaching on specific thematic issues in the encounter between Christianity and the other religious traditions, while also remaining concerned to address particular pastoral, social and experiential concerns by fostering the practice of interreligious dialogue.
The staff at the Centre have extensive personal experience of the religions and cultures of their scholarly expertise.
