International Students

Applying from overseas (undergraduate programmes)

If you wish to apply to us for one of our full time undergraduate programmes, you need to send an online application to the UK's central University admission service 'UCAS' at www.ucas.com. You cannot send an application directly to the College unless you are applying for part time undergraduate study or postgraduate study.

UCAS handle all full time applications to Universities and Colleges in the UK and immediately forward your application to those institutions applied for on the UCAS application form. The online application requires you to input your personal details, any qualifications achieved or being studied, a personal statement area to tell an institution about you and why you are applying and are suitable for the degree. There is also a employment section for any work that you might have done and a section for an an academic reference.

Academic entrance requirements will vary from country to country so please do contact admissions with any enquiry you might have.

International and EU students are encouraged to attend one of our Open Days or contact Admissions at admissions@heythrop.ac.uk to arrange a personal visit.

Applicants requiring a student visa for entry to the UK

The the UK Home Office Border Agency has introduced a new points based immigration system called ‘Tier 4’ and any student visa application (including visa renewals) made either in person or by mail will also need an Acceptance of Confirmation letter (ACL) from the institution for which the prospective student wishes to accept a study place offer.

If you do decide to accept an offer from Heythrop College and intend to make a student visa application, YOU MUST obtain this ACL letter (not the letter offering you a course place) from us. If you decide to accept an offer from another institution, you must obtain an ACL letter from that institution. Failure to submit the ACL letter with your student visa application will mean automatic refusal by the Immigration Officer. The ACL letter will set out details such as the sponsor (educational institution) registration number, the applicant personal details, course of study, details of education documents used as a basis for making a course offer and course duration.

If you wish to accept an offer from the College, please confirm this decision with UCAS as normal and also email either admissions@heythrop.ac.uk (undergraduate applications) or admissionspg@heythrop.ac.uk (postgraduate applications) requesting an ACL letter and also a scanned copy of your passport showing your passport number and your name. You will then be sent an ACL letter – you must then await receipt of this letter so that you can present / include this with your visa application. Please follow this link to the UK Border Agency for more information on the new points based system - http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/. The Acceptance of Confirmation letter will be posted to the address as provided on the UCAS application form – postal address – you must advise us of an alternative address if the postal address is not now suitable.

Applicants must show in their visa application, that they have evidence of sufficient funds to pass a maintenance test and the education documents used (as detailed in the ACL) to obtain an offer from the educational institution in which they will study.

The new points based system is being phased into operation and the ACL letter is the first stage. The next stage will require any student visa application to include a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued by the educational institution where the applicant is to study.
