Why choose this course?

The course provides a broad education, mainly in Christian Theology but with reference to other world religions.  If you are interested in understanding Christianity from many perspectives, and also want to develop your thinking and communication skills for employment, this degree would suit you well.  Heythrop offers a very wide range of Theology modules, including particular strengths in interfaith relations.

What could I go on to do?

Theology graduates go on to more varied careers than most people seem to expect. Some proceed – often after further training – to teaching and to various kinds of ministry or pastoral work where theological knowledge can be used directly, or into youth, community or advice work.  Others draw on the skills they have developed in communication, analysis and synthesis, and capacity to make sense of ideas.  They do not always proceed directly to a single career path, and may try some different jobs before settling, but theologians are to be found in law, management, finance (even Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs!), and certainly – in later career life – in the upper echelons of journalism, public and political life.
