Teaching and Assessment

BA Philosophy

How will I learn?

Each module is taught by a two-hour session once a week over two 11-week terms, or one term in the case of half modules. These are group sessions, typically lectures and presentations and seminars, which are interactive with students. In some modules you are likely to work alongside students on related degree programmes. Directed reading and other tasks guide independent learning which is an important part of your study. Additionally, you will have regular tutorials, often on a one-to-one basis, to discuss work completed or in progress, and meetings with a supervisor in relation to the dissertation.

How will I be assessed?

Each module is assessed by a combination of coursework tasks completed during or shortly after the period of module teaching and an end-of-year element, usually an examination. Coursework is most often in the form of an essay, literature review or presentation.
