Why choose this course?
In this programme, Philosophy is both ‘pure’ and ‘applied’: it is ‘pure’ in that you will consider the nature of knowledge, truth, and meaning and the structure of arguments; it is ‘applied’ in that you will have the opportunity to focus on questions about religion and ethics – the existence and nature of the divine as it is perceived in various religious traditions, the implications of religious belief for the way we live; and the ethical issues raised in some of the central debates of the modern world.
What could I go on to do?
Some graduates go on to further study or teacher training. Your understanding of diversity and of ethical issues in modern society will be a good grounding for work in community and charitable organisations, public services and the media. The degree develops skills such as clear communication and the ability to present an argument is valued by employers in most walks of life.
