Programme of Study

B Divinity

What does the programme cover?

The BD offers a theological education with a particular emphasis on Biblical Studies, Systematic Theology, Moral Theology, Liturgy, Sacraments and Ecclesiology. Some topics are covered in a summer school for STB candidates.

The programme is made up of modules. In each academic year students take four whole modules (or the equivalent in half modules). If you have already studied Philosophy, you will take an ancient language – in the first year, and this is a requirement for the STB. You will be required to study Latin. If, however, you have already studied Latin to the standard required by the university you may choose either New Testament Greek or Hebrew. Subject to prerequisites where applicable, some compulsory modules may be taken either in the second or the final year of the programme as available. The dissertation must always be taken in the final year of the programme, and is intended to draw on several areas of study in previous years.
