Research

Heythrop offers the two research degrees,

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) of the University of London in the broad areas of Philosophy and Theology, which includes the Psychology of Religion.

The College also offers an MPhil Stud, an advanced Master’s programme, studied full-time over two years (or part-time over three).

We have a small but vigorous research community undertaking a very wide
range of research topics. A list of the research interests of our current
research supervisors can be found  in the College Staff Research Directory.

There are various Philosophy Research and Theology Research seminars on offer for research students.

Recent areas researched by students range from " Angels in Intertestamental Jewish Literature" to "A Haitian Theology of Liberation", and include:

- The failure of the Church to engage with the working class population - a theological interrogation of history
- Being and Eucharist ... Heidegger's contribution to sacramental theology
- The Levellers - freedom, rights, and the doctrine of Christian liberty
- The Existence of God: A cumulative Bayesian analysis based upon intersubjective probability theory
- Thomas Merton, Contemplative Spirituality and Girard's Mimetic theory
