MA Abrahamic Religions

It is highly recommended that students should read the following two books before starting the course:

F. E. Peters. The Children of Abraham: Judaism, Christianity, Islam,  Princeton University Press; New edition, 2006.

Victoria S. Harrison. Religion and Modern Thought, SCM Press, 2007.

More advanced book:

F. E. Peters.  The Monotheists: Jews, Christians, and Muslims in Conflict and Competition, (2 vols.), Princeton University Press, 2005.

Students who are not familiar with one or more of the three Abrahamic Religions will find the following reading list useful:

Judaism:

Nicholas Robert Michael De Lange.  An introduction to Judaism, Cambridge University Press; 2nd edition, 2009.

Christianity: 

Alister E. McGrath.  Christianity: An Introduction, Wiley-Blackwell; 2nd edition, 2005.

Islam: 

Sachiko Murata and William Chittick. The vision of Islam, I B Tauris & Co Ltd; 2nd revised edition, 2006.
