International Programmes
Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics
How to apply
Application is NOT through UCAS, or direct to the College. You can apply on-line or download an application form at www.londoninternational.ac.uk.
Entry requirements
You must normally be aged 18 or over by 1 September in the year of registration and have a minimum of three subjects at Grade C or above at GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level or an equivalent qualification and Grade C or above at GCSE/GCE ‘O’ Level English language or, within the past three years, to have passed at the required standard a test of proficiency in English recognised by the University. Applicants with other qualifications not listed above and/or suitable work experience will be considered by the University on an individual basis.
Why choose this course?
This Certificate focuses on the use of Philosophy as a tool for analysing the nature and truth of religious beliefs and values, and on the two religions – Christianity and Islam – which have the greatest number of adherents.
The Certificate is a free-standing qualification approximately equivalent to the first year of a full-time degree course. Candidates who successfully complete the Certificate in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics may be eligible to enter the second year of the BA in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics programme at Heythrop College, University of London. It is therefore a way of tasting the subject to decide whether you want to continue, and also could allow you to reduce the amount of time you would need to live in London to do the whole degree.
What could I go on to do?
If you want to continue your studies, the Certificate will normally be accepted as credit towards the attendance-mode BA in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics at Heythrop College (allowing you to start in the second year or its part-time equivalent). You can also transfer to the Distance Learning BA Theology, for which you will be given credit for three of your four modules. Some other institutions may also give you credit towards a degree course.
