Persons Divine and Human - Issues in the New Testament and Ethics
Programme
10:30 Welcome
11:00 Dr Martin Poulsom , The Person of Christ
12:00 Dr Bridget Gilfillan Upton, ‘Their eyes were kept from recognising him…’
We shall explore the resurrection narratives of the synoptic gospels, concentrating on Luke’s story of journey and non-recognition. In this way we can begin to investigate the ways in which major themes in Luke’s gospel are brought to a conclusion and think together about other contemporary material that might enhance our understanding.
13:00 Lunch
14:00 Dr Agneta Sutton, Is Euthanasia Murder?
Summary: It is important to define euthanasia and assisted suicide before entering into a discussion about these issues. Equally it is important to distinguish these practices from foregoing futile or overly burdensome treatment by withholding or withdrawing treatment. So we shall discuss definitions and distinctions before critically examining secular arguments in favour as well as religious and secualr arguments against the two practices
15:00 Dr Peter Coughlan, Business Ethics
16:00 Close of Conference
