In 2013 the Congregation for Catholic Education approved the reopening of the ecclesiastical faculties of philosophy and theology at Heythrop College. These were first established in Chipping Norton in 1964 but had been dormant since the College moved to the University of London in 1970. The two faculties together are known as the Bellarmine Institute. During the five years of its functioning the Institute awarded baccalaureate, licentiate and doctoral degrees. The Heythrop/Bellarmine graduates have gone on to contribute to the life of the Church throughout the world in ordained ministry, seminary formation and other kinds of teaching and service.
