Royal Charter, Ordinances and Statutes

Royal Charter, Ordinances and Statutes

The Charter is the founding document presented to the College by the Queen when it acquired its present status as a higher education institution in 1971. The College Statutes broadly define the institutional governance structure.

The legal form of the College is that of a "body incorporated by Royal Charter". (This information is from time to time required in various formal contexts such as grant applications to external bodies.)

The Charter and Statutes may be updated at the request of the College Council but all alterations require approval by the Privy Council.
