Terms of Reference
1. To implement the processes set out in the Heythrop Code of Practice for Research Degree Students, concerning the admission, progression, supervision, transfer and assessment of Research Degree Students.
2. To implement the processes approved by the Academic Board, in relation to interruption of study, termination of studies, suspension of the regulations, complaints, and such other matters as are specified by the approved Code of Practice, by the Research Committee or by the Academic Board. To make recommendations to the Research Committee for amendment of procedures within the Code of Practice.
3. To monitor the operation, quality and standard of the Research Degree programme, using relevant information including application, progression and completion data and examiners’ reports, and to report annually to Academic Board through the Research Committee.
4. To contribute to, and make recommendations concerning, arrangements for the induction and skills training of research students, and the professional development of supervisors.
5. The Committee will ensure, in respect of the areas of College life falling within its remit, that unlawful discrimination on grounds of age, disability, gender re-assignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief (including lack of belief), sex, or sexual orientation, does not occur. It will ensure this by:
a) monitoring appropriate data sets at suitable intervals, and
b) explicitly considering the impact on equality issues of any new actions, policies or procedures which it initiates or approves.
