Heythrop College is a College of the University of London specialising in Theology and Philosophy. It has a long and distinguished history, having been founded in 1614 as a Jesuit foundation. While retaining close links to the Roman Catholic Church, it is now open to all faiths, and to staff and students with no faith affiliation. In addition to teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees in Philosophy and Theology, the College is home to a number of specialised Centres:
The Centre for Christianity and Interreligious Dialogue provides a forum for the study and practice of the encounter between Christianity and the other major religious traditions; The Centre for Eastern Christianity seeks to create a significant scholarly opening in Eastern Christian Studies; The Centre for Philosophy of Religion aims to re-establish the links between religion as a set of theoretical claims and its moral, psychological and spiritual aspects, and by exploring how it is related to contemporary secular and scientific thought. The Heythrop Institute: Religion and Society replaces Institute for Religion, Ethics and Public Life as a centre for critical reflection on contemporary issues and is both a resource and a stimulus for formulating Christian responses to the many complex questions that arise today. The Religious Life Institute is also based at Heythrop with further details to be announced soon.
Staff at Heythrop College have expertise in a wide range of topics relating to philosophy and theology, including business ethics, social concerns, working with multi faith communities, relationships between different faiths, and the situation in the Middle East. Please see the full list of staff research interests on the Staff Research Directory link.
We look forward to helping you with your enquiry.
