Loans
The following borrowing allowances apply:
Heythrop Undergraduates: 6 books for 2 weeks
Heythrop Postgraduates: 10 books for 6 weeks
Heythrop Research students: 12 books for 12 weeks
Heythrop Alumni Borrowing Scheme Members: 5 books for 6 weeks. Members of this scheme may not borrow Short Loan, 1 Day Loan or 1 Week Loan items as these are in heavy demand for current students
Students of other University of London Colleges doing modules at Heythrop:
6 books for 2 weeks
SCONUL Access (including University of London staff and research students): 5 books for 6 weeks
All books on loan are subject to recall by other readers.
Recalled books must be returned within 7 days of recall or by the original return date, which ever is sooner.
Short Loan items (marked on the spine with a red dot) must be requested from the member of staff on the relevant issue desk. These items may be borrowed for 3 hours during the day, from 4.00pm until 10.00am the following day, from 4.00pm on Friday until 10.00am on Monday and over the vacation.
There are also some books which may only be borrowed for periods of one day or one week. This is marked on the spine.
Periodicals and reference-only volumes may not be borrowed.
Overdue books
You will be advised by e-mail when a book is overdue. These notices will be sent to your College e-mail account or, if you do not have a College account, to a home e-mail address.
Fines
Heythrop imposes stiff fines for overdue books - £0.30 per book per day. It is, however, easy to avoid fines.
Book renewals
Books can be renewed:
- in person at the Library issue desk.
- by phone (dial 020 7795 4250 and follow the instructions to leave a voice mail message giving the barcode number on the back of your library card and your name.),.
- via the Library page on our web site (go to the catalogue page, click on Self-Service Renewals).
You are advised to renew your books shortly before the due date. You will not be able to renew a loan if someone else has reserved the book and in that case it must be returned promptly.
Reservations
You can reserve a book for your own use, although only if the item is already out on loan. On the catalogue click the “request” button on the item record. You will be advised by e-mail when the book becomes available. Recalled books should be returned within 7 days.
