Agneta has a Fil. kand., from Lund University (1966:  Philosophy and Mathematics); a M.Sc.(Econ) from University of London (LSE, 1968: History of Political Thought); a M.Phil., from University of London (Birkbeck College, 1982: Philosophy); a PhD, University of London (King’s College, 2001). Her doctoral thesis was a critical study comparing the sexual ethics and methodology of John Paul II and Karl Barth.

Agneta is a Visiting Lecturer at Heythrop College since 2003. She is married to Michael Sutton. They have four adult children. Raising a family and moving from England to Belgium and back she taught at Swedish Schools in London and Brussels in the 1970s. From 1986-1994 she worked at the Linacre Centre for Health Care Ethics, London. Then from 1944-2003 she worked at the Centre for Bioethics and Public Policy, London. Taking up university employment, she worked from September 2000 to December 2003 as Associate Lecturer in the Department of Theology at University College Chichester, now University of Chichester. From December 2003 to August 2008 she was Senior Lecturer at the University of Chichester in the Department of Theology. In the winter term of 1999 and the autumn term of 2004 she worked temporarily in the Department of Theology at King’s College, London University.

Formerly Chairman of the Ethics and Medicine Trust (1997-2000) Agneta is Associate Editor of Ethics and Medicine (peer-reviewed international journal) since June 2001. From October 1997 to September 2002 she was Treasurer of the European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics (EACME). Agneta is a member of the Catholic Guild of Writers, Catholic Theological Association, the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics and the European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics.

Current Teaching

Agneta teaches two 3rd year undergraduate half modules: ‘Interpersonal and Sexual Ethics and Bioethics. She also teaches one MA module: Sexual Ethics and Medical Ethics.
